We headed out late afternoon on Friday to the Island of Long for our first official wedding party: The Thunderstorm! The stars aligned when we hit the George Washington Bridge as there was no traffic in site, and sailed on through to eastern Long Island. After catching up with some friends and family, we spent the rest of the night in my brother’s hot tub, hanging out drinking with him and his wife….who introduced us to the Umeboshi Plum and while they are saltier than a sailor at 2am…they definitely took the edge off the next day.
I should admit something here about how anxious we were for the Thunderstorm. For some reason Dave and I felt uncomfortable as we drove over to the party. It was something about being the center of attention at this wedding tradition that we are simply not familiar with, and, again, has that feminine connotation. There was also something strange about not having to help prepare for the party…I can’t fully explain it, but we just felt like impostors. But with all the good will and love around us, we got past this. Our friends and family wanted to celebrate us as they have with the ones that have come before. So from the games meant to test our knowledge of each other to the tuxedo making contest the day was something we will remember. I should tell you that Dave won all the contests…as if another outcome was possible.
Oh, and the gifts were cool too. From the handmade cabana outfits (yes I said handmade) to bags of treats for our honeymoon including salacious dice, we loved everything! I posted some pictures below, all taken by my sister-in-law, Maureen Mancini.

So cute, love the pics! We chose not to have a bridal shower for the same reason, don’t like to be the center of attention. Plus we tried to combine mine with my now wife’s traditions and pick and chose what we liked for our wedding.
thanks! it was a lot of fun, once we got past the center of attention thing,
You guys are so fun! Glad the thunderstorm went so well and you were showered with love, affection and gifts. Looking forward to the big party in a few months.
Thanks…same here, see you soon!
I adore that you called it the Thunderstorm! We combated the feminine conotations by having our shower in a sports bar!
Thanks…that must have been a fun shower!
