After we were done shooting our group and couple shots we headed over to meet our guests at the reception.
As we entered the supper club our amazing jazz band, Lapis Luna, performed “Beyond the Sea,” and I lead my beautiful Wife to the dance floor.
Our fathers met us at the dance floor and the band began to perform “The Way You Look Tonight” Dancing with our fathers was so much fun. It made me feel like I was 8 years old again, and what was one of my favorite things to do as a child? TWIRL, and so I did…. lots!
After the song ended our fathers left us hand in hand as the band began to play our song, “There is No Greater Love.”
When we first started dating in college I was completely obsessed with Billie Holiday. We used to listen to lots of jazz and when I heard this song I declared to Nicole that this was totally going to be OUR song. Nicole’s response was an almost immediate roll of the eyes since she is not a mushy girlie girl, which only encouraged me to dedicate it to her or sing it to her just to see her cringe. However on this day there were no rolling eyes, or cringes as we danced for the first time ever in our relationship to the song that had long been unofficially OUR song.
After our dances everyone sat down to eat. I remember countless times having people tell me about how we will be so busy we won’t even have time to enjoy our dinner. So I’m glad we made it a point to sit down and enjoy!
The food was amazing! Having good food was something that was so important for us while we were deciding on the venue, and our choice really paid off. It was delicious!
After Dinner we were toasted by Nicole’s Dude of Honor Dave, my Father, and my Matron of Honor Kristin.
Then the party started to heat up, and everyone hit the dance floor!
While Kristin and her Husband danced I got to dance with my favorite little guy Max. He’s going to break some hearts one day!
We even got my mom on the dance floor!
Nicole and I ceremoniously opened the cupcake table by cutting a cupcake!
We then proceeded to feed each other our half of the cupcake… note the evil look in my Wife’s eyes!
Despite my pleas for her to be nice I did wind up with cake lovingly smashed into my face.
While everyone enjoyed the cupcakes I escorted my Wife back to the dance floor for our last dance of the evening.
When you talk to married people about being engaged they always tell you about how the whole day will feel like a blur, and as much as I promised myself that that wouldn’t be true, it was.
In Dave’s toast he passed on some sage words a friend had told him and I think that it sums everything up perfectly, so I would love to share them with you all as well…
This day goes by fast, so much so that the memories can get blurry. But there will probably be one or two moments, maybe different for each of you. It could be anytime throughout the day perhaps just a couple seconds you will remember for the rest of your lives. It’s the first of many snapshots of happy memories u will create as your relationship grows. I hope your first special memory, that moment that bonds this love and your lives together, guides you both.
